The General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways held a meeting on solutions minimizing negative impact of the A18 motorway on environment, including the wolf population inhabiting Lower Silesian Forest (SW Poland, near the state border with Germany). Dr. Sabina Nowak participated in the meeting as a AfN WOLF expert. Our proposition to create three additional (beyond the dozen already approved) wildlife passages in key locations and eleven water reservoirs, which are designed for wolves was accepted. These water reservoirs will increase the number of areas, which can be used by wolves during the pup-raising season, thus increasing the chance of reproductive success of wolves in the Lower Silesian Forest.
